For almost a century the area surrounding Lecco and Como boasts a strong alpine tradition, linked to rock climbing. Rock climbing since the thirties and the legendary period of the VI grade in Grigna and Resegone, has found its chosen site. For almost thirty years the rock in the Lecco and Como area has seen a speedy and widespread diffusion of sports climbing both nationally and internationally. This volume, which has now reached its fourth edition, sums up all of the sports climbing opportunities in the crags from Lecco to Como, leaving the job of describing the multi pitch routes to a specific guide book: LARIO ROCK Pareti. Almost one hundred crags are described backed up by the customary topos and action photos which guide the reader through the most enjoyable and difficult itineraries. An interesting innovation consists of a few historical and technical in depth observations which for the first time ever, give an almost complete picture of how sports climbing has developed in this natural context, highlighting the human profile of its main protagonists.

Eugenio Pesci, (1961) was born in Milan, the city where he currently lives  and  teaches philosophy in high schools. He  taught Landscape aesthetics at the Faculty of Architecture of Milan Polytechnic. He began his experiences in the mountains in 1974 and from then on he has dedicated his time to rock and especially sports climbing, about which he helped to spread information through his articles, books and technical publications. He has opened roughly 15 modern routes in the Grigna area, in his natural habitat, and equipped routes in Verdon, Val Formazza, Sardinia, Campania as well as in the Lecco area. He has also edited: Le Grigne. Guida dei Monti d’Italia (CAI TCI, 1998).

He is always searching for new itineraries in unknown places and has opened many new routes in the Grigne group, Campelli and Orobie, favouring an “explorative” type of alpinism, not only climbing but also looking at historic personalities and their routes. He has equipped many crags and is the author of climbing publications. His passion for the mountains is total, covering all its forms and activities.
