Ondra lacks of brilliancy, ends 3rd - veteran Ovchinnikov qualifies
No surprises in the semifinals of Lead Climbing - at least for the first positions, except for the impressive Ramon Julian Puigblanque and Jakob Schubert, who both seem to be perfectly at ease in easily reaching the top. No flaws, no apparent effort. The first one has climbed in a dynamic, light style, while the latter has shown an exceptional strength. Adam Ondra is immediately trailing: although he's managed to find a brilliant solution in overcoming the roof, he falls a few holds later, showing some fatigue. Amma Sachi (JPN) doesn't qualify for one single hold - yet his action has been definitely too slow, resulting in a large drain of stamina, and Cédric Lachat disappoints the expectations wasting time, and then tangling up and falling, in the circular movements under the roof. The young Mario Lechner, from Austria, doesn't manage to focus properly: he starts exceedingly contracted and ends up with a big mess in the very first holds!
Also the Russian climbers Evgeny Zazulin and Evgeny Ovchinnikov - the latter at the top of sport climbing for more than ten years! - qualify for the finals.
