SCF: TOP MARATHON, AND THEN BEN HEASON VIDEO

The last day of the third edition of San Vito Climbing Festival

October 10, 2011

Within this evening the Top Marathon Videoclip will be online. Stay tuned!

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise… how does it sound?
We think that it could perfectly apply to the Top Marathon: after some night drizzles, while a gentle sunshine warmed the climbers in the morning, a perfect storm was brewing… since its explosion, exactly at noon! As for climbing, it was a pity, but at least we had the chance to watch a video by Ben Heason, who has turned himself (any telephone booth around?) into a lecturer, dismissing the top climber attire. Wonderful images but, most of all, hats off to Ben who shows a flamboyant talent for showing & telling & mesmerizing the audience with his experience on Rainbow Jambaia, which was originally an artif route on Salto Angel, climbed in the Eighties and then sent in free-climbing fifteen years later by a team led by Ben Heason. Later, Stephanie Bodet e Arnaud Petit would repeat it.
Then it was the time for prize-giving. Here’s the winners: Eliza Kubarska & Livia Guaino (women) – Marzio Nardi & Guido Cortese (men) – Greta Albertoni & Bernardo RIvadossi (mix).
Finally, a brief assessment of this edition of San Vito Climbing Festival, which, although being still “young”, has a lot of potential. The pros: wonderful climate, warm hospitality, good flight connections with Trapani and Palermo airports, interest and far-sightedness of the main climbing brands, collaboration from the local public administration which is willing to provide support (and money!) for the future development of climbing in the area. Many ideas are brewing for refining and fine-tuning the event – there are still some details to make San Vito Climbing Festival an unique gem, and to help the climbers’ participation, enlarging and enriching the offer – also for lodging and connections.
This edition, anyway, reasserts that October, for European climbers, will be definitely associated with SCF!
