Pizzo Painale is a 10,656 ft / 3,248 m mountain peak located in Pizzo Scalino Group at the bottom of two long valleys, Val Fontana and Val di Togno (Lombardy, Italy).
The North wall of Pizzo Painale was still unclimbed, even if several times attempted. On May, 13th, mountaineer Francesco Forni (“Mappa”) from Sondrio has managed the first (and solo) ascent of Painale North Wall, reaching in less of 4 hours the west Ridge and then to the top.
The route invented by Francesco Forni follows a gully in the right sector of the wall, on ice and bad rock and was called Apnea (400 m III/WI3/M3).
