FA IN BUGABOOS CANADA
Flying penguin by Riegler bros
September 25, 2009
After his performance in La Cattedrale (Dolomites) (UPclimbing august 14) Florian Riegler, together with his brother Martin, made a FA in Bugaboos – BC Canada.
“"better weather as in patagonia - better rock as in the dolomites - and less people as in Yosemite. That sounds good and so we decided to visit the bugaboos.
We starts with big and heavy packs from the car. a plateau on 2.600m surrounded by snow and big walls is our base camp. we are searching for something new and we find virgin rock on a nameless tower of the pigeon feathers. a nice crack divides the pillar in two parts – perfect for a first ascent” .
The route is 9 pitches 7c+ 300 meters and runs on a virgin pillar. The duo redpointed all the pitches except the second – a long beautiful thin crack of 40 meters – always too wet.
“The name…? the shape of the pillar recalls a pynguin and we made it fly!”
