Goodbye Ueli Steck

The great Swiss alpinist Ueli Steck died in a climbing accident in Himalaya. Based on news of Thehimalayantimes, during an acclimatization ascent on Nuptse, Ueli fells and his body has benn found with no life near Camp 1 of Everest. This was one of preparations for his next target, the Everest-Lhotse traverse.

Ueli was born in Langnau in Emmental in 1976 and won two Piolet d’Or, one in 2009 with Simon Anthamatten for the new route in Tengkangpoche, and in 2014 for 28 hours ascent on Annapurna. Thanks his famous fast ascent, he earned the name of Swiss Machine. In 2008 did the Colton-Macintyre on Grandes Jorasses in 2 hours and 21 minutes, in 2009 the Schmid on Matterhorn on 1 hours and 56 minutes and in 2015 the Jackmair in Eiger in 2 hours and 22 minutes.
