30 Oct Two 7c+ redpoints in Yosemite
In October 2009, Doug Englekirk (1961) redpointed after five attempts Leaning Tower’s Westie Face (V 5.13a/b AO, 9 pitches, ‘FFA’ Leo Houlding and Jason Pickles 2001) and Washington Column’s Quantum Mechanic (V 5.13a, 15 pitches, FA/FFA Rob “Platinum” Miller, Jay "Shaggy" Selvidge, 2002) on his second attempt.
Doug’s send of the Westie Face likely stands in the top 10 free ascents of the route. About Quantum, this is likely the fourth free ascent.
Doug Englekirk’s major accomplishments include First Place in Sport Climbing National Championships 92, 93 and 94, two top ten finisher in the World Cup in 91 and 92, FA Genesis (VI, 5.11, A4+ 6c El Capitan) and Free at Last (5.14a, 8b+ Mt.
