Florian Riegler redpoints The Cattedrale – Marmolada

La Cattedrale is a wonderful route on the South wall of Marmolada di Rocca 3309m first ascended by 3 prominent Dolomites climbers of the 80s, Graziano Maffei,Mariano Frizzera and Paolo Leoni.

In 1983 the trio found on the huge Marmolada south wall the line that links the initial slabs to the top of “Canne d’organo” throught the big roof that seems close the way up.. A big achievement at that time: 850 m VI+ A4. In 2004 Piero Dal Prà free ascendend the route, grading it up to 8a+.

Last June Florian Riegler redpointed the Cattedrale climbing in 12 hours the 21 pitches of the route. A very special photograph for this event: Thomas Ulrich
“It was the best route climbed in Dolomites. Exactely what Pietro Dal Prà and Graziano Maffei declared y after the ascent” said Florian”.
