The Swiss Mountain Guide Jean Troillet, (61 years, based in La Fouly) climbed in June 2009 a 600 meters new route on the North face of Matterhorn, together with Martial Dumas and Jean-Yves Fredriksen.
Jean Troillet has 10 8000m peaks under his belt and was the first man to descent north face Everest on snow board and has the speed record on the same face ( 43 hours ascent-descent).
The new route on Matterhorn runs to the left of the Bonatti route and to the right of the Schmidt route. Troillet had began the route three years ago together with Sébastien Gay, but at the time the two were forced to retreat.
Unfortunately a few weeks later Sébastien Gay died in tragic speedflying accident.near Verbier, so the route is dedicated by Troillet to his climbing partner. Troillet describes it as follows: "The route starts steeply, the first 400m are almost overhanging. You have to see the plus side: this protected us from falling rocks.”
