15 Sep New lines bolted by Severino Scassa
When it comes to the cliff La Brigue (France), come to mind the vertical walls of gray limestone, face climb moves, a style of climbing a bit ‘old fashioned. Few people know that the sector La Grotte offers a different kind of climbing.
As mentioned in my topos book Andonno e Cuneese, Versante Sud, 2009, La Grotte area was discovered and developed in recent years by Patrice Glairon-Rappaz, a talented French mountain guide, who here has bolted and freed several long routes on overhanging rock.
Immediately after the equipment, Patrice moved from Nice to Chamonix. The wall was in danger of falling by the wayside, if I and a few friends we had not started attending with some diligence, climbing Patrice’s routes, cleaning them and everything seemed unstable and casting an eye on possible new lines.
I must say that at first I had underestimated the potential of this fantastic summer spot. Last year, perhaps for the lack of motivation, I had overlooked some very interesting lines. I returned this year an unknown number of times during June and July, in the company of Ernesto D’Angelo and Monica Bottero. So new lines are born, beautiful and challenging. I also fixed and freed a route bolted by Patrice, Walk This Way, 8a, and finally I also fixed another route by Patrice called Lou Brigand 8a+. (Severino Scassa)
