Yesterday August 6, in Piano dei Resinelli (Lecco), Riccardo Cassin passed away.
He was 100 years old.
Extraordinary man, higly talented alpinist, he made so many amazing first ascents that is impossible to describe all of them. Grandes Jorasses Piz Badile, West of Lavaredo, Torre Trieste, McKinley, Gasherbrum IV, the list is endless.
His eyes, clear and full of light, never gave over to see what is unknown to the majority of the alpinists.
Once he said :"To whom asking me where alpinism is going, I answer: to the mountains. This is what really counts. All the rest is meaningless.
