Italian Roby Piantoni, a professional alpine guide, fell to his death on Shisha Pangma’s south face, at 6700 meters, while climbing the British route.
He was together with his close friends Marco Astori and Yuri Parimbelli, and their original goal was to establish a new route on the face.
Roby was a son of Livio, also an alpine guide, perished in 1981 on Peruvian Andes.
Born in Colere (Bergamo – Northern Italy ), Roby was a talented and polivalent alpinist, as well as a kind and unassuming man, searching for his own way to climb the mountains, always in a light and clean style.
He was considered one of the best italian alpinists of the new generation.
