03 Jul Sardinia – Larcher redpoints Umbras
On 2008, the well known team Larcher – Oviglia first climbed Umbras, a great route on the north wall of Punta Cusidore, in the wild heart of Supramonte. On 2009, june 15. Larcher redpointed the route, with him Maurizio Oviglia and Francesco Mich.
The itinerary runs for 300 m on the north wall on an impressive grey vertical dalle and as difficulty reach 8a (7b+ obligatory).
In Sardinian language, Umbras means “shadow” : the name is a tribute to the island and its rocks, as well as a recall that the route lies in shadows since 11am and deserves a fresh temperature even in full summer.
According to Rolando the rock of Umbras is a gem, a sandstone very compact full of small holes reminding Mur de Berlin a Ceuse. So another masterpiece in Sardinia, together with the highly desired Hotel Supramonte at Gole di Gorropu and Mezzogiorno di fuoco at Punta Giradili.
You can appreciate the elegant Umbras from the beautiful pictures of Maurizio Oviglia, a talented climber as well as photograph.
