Christian Stangl confessed today to the Austrian broadcaster ORF, that he never reached the summit of K2 and to have acted in a state of "recklessness" caused by stress and fear of failure.
The news is taken with wide coverage by all Austrian press.
According to his original report, on Aug. 12th he summited K2 alone and without aid of supplemental oxygen in a single summit push, which lasted a total of 70 hours.
His expedition mates and others alpinists present at BC had raised several doubts about Stangl’s ascent which – hypothetically – was the only successful ascent of K2 in 2010).
