23 Mar New ice climb in Val di Mello Italy
Val di Mello (Val Masino – Italy) is one of the best granite rock climbing area of Europe, with hundreds of famed routes; in winter also offers beautiful ice falls of every difficulty’s level.
The valley hosts in spring the well known Melloblocco, an international boulder rendez-vous.
On February 4th, Alpine Guide Mario Sertori carried out the first ascent of an impressive free-standing on the left hydrographic side of the valley, very rarely formed and never been climbed previously.
The column’s ascent was challenging, on a fragile, chandeliered terrain. According to Mario Sertori it was one of the hardest he has ever climbed on ice before.
