23 Jul New route on Peña Santa de Castilla – Picos de Europa

 
 
 
 
On july 6-15, meeting of Equipo Español de Alpinismo at Picos de Europa, Northern Spain.
 
A team of climbers focused the south wall of Peña Santa de Castilla, where Manu Córdova and Silver Barrientos climbed the wall’s hardest route Oficio de Tinieblas (600 m, 7a), while Daniel Crespo and David Bautista first climbed a new route left of Brecha Norte: Alicuencana 450 m ì 6b+ A1.
 
Mikel Bonilla, Martín Elías and Simón Elías first climbed 4 pitches of a new route on the left section of the wall (6a+, 8a, 6a+ 7b+). As at the fifth pitch Mikel Bonilla fell down 14 meters, they discontinued the ascent.
 
Later Manuel Córdova onsighted the 4 pitches and confirmed the estimated difficulties.The team moved to Urriellu Refuge where completed important repeats on Naranjo de Bulnes and free-climbed very hard routes.
