8C first ascent for Florian Schmalzl

An incredible line by the reserved austrian climber

The ascent of Sierra Madre in Zillertal.

In the last months, we knew about the ascents by Florian Schmalzl only thanks to Christof Rauch, who reported the results of a climber that probably does not like to stay below the lights. Already a few years ago, Florian repeated reference boulders such as Anam Cara 8B+ and Zunami, 8C and in the last months he sent Emotional Landscapes, 8C and Bugeleisen 8B+ in addition to some 8B flash in Varazze.

Now he creates his own creature, with a very high level first ascent. In Zillertan, Florian found an incredible line which he cleaned, studied, climbed and named Sierra Madre. He didn’t propose any grade, but who tried it believes that it is 8C.

"All in all, cleaning it, finding the beta and climbing it, it took me ten days."
