Shiraishi, Rubtsov and Lamb: great ascents!
A series of extreme sends from 8B+ to 8C+23 August 2021
From the RMNP to the Caucasus on days of low gravity for many boulderers!
Days of great results, starring Ashima Shiraishi, Alexey Rubtsov and Andy Lamb.
For Ashima in particular, this is a return to the highest levels of female bouldering: in the Upper Chaos sector of the RMNP, three days ago the American climbed Jade's 8B +, one of the most iconic lines in Colorado! On her Instagram profile she posted the video of the ascent, saying that it has been "... My best climbing day to this date". Ashima has been the first woman to climb an 8C boulder in 2016, sending Horizon at Mount Hei in Japan. Let’s also remember that Jade is a line first climbed by Daniel Woods and that is not new to exploits of the highest level. The highest point on it was indeed reached by Adam Ondra who managed to flash it in 2015: a result that, with very few others of the same level, is still the highest one in this style in bouldering.
Let’s stay in Colorado, because it is also here that Andy Lamb reaches the 8C+ with the repetition of Creature From the Black Lagoon, another line with the signature of Daniel Woods. Andy, a little known boulderer who already gained the ascent of two 8Cs in his career (the last one in February with The Nest at Red Rocks) reveals that he attempted Creature as a side plan from his original project to try the 8C of Blade Runner: then, he found at ease on this physical and complex roof, finally sending it somewhat unexpectedly and making its eighth repetition.
Finally, these days of the highest level end with the Russian Alexey Rubtsov, who, after having closed the 8B/C of Focus Failed, still remained in the Caucasian area of Djantugan to climb also Low Priora. This line, first climbed again by Vadim Timonov in October 2020, is currently the hardest in the area with its 8C/+. Rubtsov got the first repeat, posting the video on his Instagram profile and proposing the 8C.
