Malcolm Smith: Splinter

Malcolm Smith back up to full power

02 June 2016

Just eighteen years old, Malcolm Smith, basically out of nowhere, did the first repeat of the legendary Hubble, at the time the hardest route in the world. Unknown to the climbng world, the young Scotsman impressed for his brutal power, that later on enabled him to do laps on the route during a photo shooting session with Heinz Zak.

The secret of his power was his micro climbing board in his bedroom, where he had set a replica of Hubble, only harder. The problem, named Hubble Problem With a Start and a Finish, seems to be around 8b+ and Malcolm climbed it only twice in five years. Once during the filming of this video by Ben Pritchard, winner of many prizes.
