05 Jun “Exile on Main Street”, direct route on the Grünhorn opened by Dani Arnold and Stephan Ruoss

On 12 May, Dani Arnold and Stephan Ruoss opened “Exile on Main Street”, a very direct route on the Gross Grünhorn (4044 m) in the Bernese Oberland.

Dani Arnold thought it was a joke as he discovered that the direct line leading to the top of the Gross Grünhorn (4044 m) had never been climbed. So the Swiss alpinist went to the Bernese Oberland in March 2017 together with Mario Walder for a first visit. The two climbers have desisted because of too much snow.

Dani Arnold returned this May together with his friend Stephan Ruoss and they found much better conditions for the climb. The two departed from the Finsteraarhornhütte (3048 m) and, after reaching the base of the wall with skis, climbed “Exile on Main Street”, 600 meters of difficulty M7, 6b +.

Arnold and Ruoss left some bolts on the wall for the rappels, while for the ascent they used fast protections and left only three pitons on the wall, to leave the repeaters a bit of adventure.
