05 May Girl power: Messner and Scarth Johnson
Beautiful 8c climbs for Jana Messner and Angie Scarth Johnson.
Anyone who has frequented the gyms, bouldering areas and crags for some time will certainly have noticed that the number of female climbers is soaring, coming to compete with the boys. If you are still in doubt about the numbers, then the level reached by many of them can give you the final blow…
Let’s start with the Italian news. Famous on the competition circuit for a few years, Jana Messner comes from the South Tyrol school, full of great talents and great climbers. After several excellent placings in national and international circuits, Jana concentrated on outdoor climbing and conquered the chain of her third 8c. We are talking about Scoglio di Capri, a classic high difficulty pitch at the Bus de Vela crag. 2022 has just begun and a summer full of climbing is expected for Jana, so… Stay tuned!
Bursting onto the screens thanks to her youthful exploits, Angie Scarth Johnson is one of the youngest pro-climbers in the world. At just 17, she already lives far from home, more precisely in Spain, with the very strong Jorge Diaz Rullo. Since the age of 9 she has embarked on the life of a globetrotter and last year she has climbed her first 9a. At Margalef she has quickly climbed Zipayorik ez!, A really challenging 8c/+. If for many of us it would be enough to be happy, for her it is a minor project: her attention is in fact on Victimas Perez, the pitch considered one of the hardest 9a in the world!
