[VIDEO] Illya Bakhmet-Smolenskyi, the new youngest 9a climber

Also beats Adam Ondra but what does this mean?

21 November 2018
Illya Bakhmet-Smolenskyi has resolved a 9a route, Chromosome X to Charmey, and given his age he becomes (for now) the youngest climber to have climbed a route of similar difficult.

The news is quickly going around the web and rightly so. Illya Bakhmet-Smolenskyi became the youngest climber to have resolved a 9a route by climbing Chromosome X to Charmey, Pirmin Bertle route that Illya has climbes at 13 years, 9 months and 1 day, "beating" the record of Adam Ondra who at 13, 9 months and 6 days, surprised the world by climbing Martin Krpan. Very good Illya but at the bottom is also the natural evolution of things that does not surprise so much. As we have underlined several times, the rapid evolution of climbing has led to surprising results at crazy ages, both downwards and upwards, and as this climb actually represents an excellent performance with a lot of record, it is not possible to compare a 9a to 13 years done in 2006 compared to one climbed in 2018, almost 2019.

Ashima Shiraishi, Angie Scarth-Johnson, Horst brothers, Janja Garbet of a few years ago, Shawn and Brooke Raboutou, Oriane Bertone are just some of the names of young and very young people who for the last few years have been shaking only the climbers of the band 20 -25 years but this is also the case. Just yesterday we gave news that a boy of 15 climbed the Nose free. This is Connor Herson who broke the record of Beth Rodden who went up to 25 years not to mention Lynn Hill who had even 32. But what are we talking about?

So the Bakhmet-Smolenskyi record is there and remains but with due differences.
