Schubert repeats Erebor

Another 9b for Jakob

14 January 2022
Jakob Schubert repeats Erebor, 9b.

Austrian Jakob Schubert is unstoppable. After a 2021 as an absolute world leader, with performances ranging from 9b+ climbed easily, to the double 9bs in one day, to the 8C of bouldering and the 8B+ flash, to the victory in the lead world cup and the bronze at the Olympics, 2022 seems to start living up to expectations.

In his social channels, Stefano Ghisolfi had announced that the conditions in Arco were perfect for sending tough projects and Schubert certainly didn't miss the opportunity. Arriving in Trentino in the company of other strong Austrian climbers, Jakob concentrated on one of the hardest routes in the area, succeeding in a quick repetition. In four days of work, divided into two days each, Jakob grabs the ascent of Erebor. Jakob climbed the route after a little accident (he broke a foothold), describing it as very beautiful and just a bit harder than the original, not harder enough to change the grade.

Thanks to his achievements and above all to his stellar 2021, according to many, Schubert is considered the best climber in the world after Adam Ondra, who still holds the record. What is undeniable is that Jakob is one of the best sport climbers ever, ranging from resin to more classic routes.
