Alex Honnold, free solo on El Capitan!!!
With no rope on FreeRider. Never seen before04 June 2017
With an incredible time of 3 hours and 56 minutes, Alex Honnold did something unthinkable, the complete free solo ascent of a route on El Capitan climbing FreeRider.
1000 meters long and 7c+ max, FreeRider was opened by Alex and Thomas Huber in 1998 and is a classic big wall in Yosemite. With its offwidth crags, FreeRider follows the Salathè at the beginning to exit on an indipendent line for last 4 pitch.
To use the quite of borning morning, Honnold started to climb at 5.32 and at 9.28 he was on the top while the valley was awakening and other climbers began their day on Yosemite walls.
This was the first time that a route on El Capitan was climbed from ground to top all no rope. During other solo ascents on El Cap, Alex used ropes for some pitch or daisy chain.
