Alex Honnold, second Wet Lycra Nightmare ascent
In Yosemite following Todd Skinner
05 October 2015Alex Honnold was able to do the second ascent of a leggendary route on Leaning Tower, in Yosemite, climbed a lot of time ago by legend Todd Skinner. This is Wet Lycra Nithmare (8L, 8b) and for this occasion Alex had Tommy Caldwell to belay. Skinner died in 2006 for a climbing accident but just two years before climbed free this line with Jim Hewett. Wet Lycra in fact is a old aid route, Wet Denim Daydream (5.6, A3), opened in 1977 by Darrell Hatton and Angus Thuermer. Todd and Jim did some variants to do this in total free climbing. This was a typical style of Skinner, great innovator of USA climbing. His must is the free ascent of Salathè in 1988 with Paul Piana.
