Arabba: one step away from the dream

An unknown area, a starting point for outdoor adventures

25 September 2020

Over the weekend between 18 and 20 September 2020, we had the pleasure of participating in a press trip organized by the Arabba Fodom Tourism Association.

It was thus possible to experience first hand the beauties of a territory perhaps still little known and all to be discovered: Arabba, a hamlet of the Municipality of Livinallongo del Col di Lana (BL) in the Fodom Valley, at the foot of the Sella massif.

Located at 1600 meters above sea level, in a strategic position between the Pordoi Pass and the Campolongo Pass, overlooking the unmistakable Marmolada wall, Arabba is the starting point for the most diverse summer and winter outdoor experiences: climbing, mountain biking, skiing, trekking close at hand so that from the town you can walk to ski lifts and starting points for breathtaking excursions.

The hospitality, the care for traditions and the atmosphere of great peace that you breathe from the moment you arrive are an added value to what nature and the work of man have created over time.

In our two days of stay we only had a taste of what this area with great potential can offer. The experience began with a light trekking in the marvelous setting of the Bec de Roces (spectacular pinnacles of coral rock) and the characteristic Sasso Quadro, followed by a lunch in a malga dedicated to the best raw materials and the passionate stories of the hostess .

The next day, a more challenging route led us along the trenches of the First World War (Arabba is the transit point of the Great War Tour, a ring of about eighty kilometers, a true open-air museum of the First World War) to the attack of the Ferrata of the Lieutenant Fusetti: a real immersion between History and Nature, followed as a perfect conclusion by a visit to the characteristic Castle of Andraz.

The third and last day saw us say goodbye to Arabba with a panoramic coffee at high altitude, climbing comfortably from the village by cable car to the 2478 meters of Porta Vescovo: behind us the Marmolada, queen of the Dolomites, and in front of us the slopes of Arabba and the Saddle.

Sport, rest, hospitality, immersion in majestic nature: the local tourist board is not mistaken in placing Arabba "A step away from the dream".
