La Sportiva: For Your Mountain
La Sportiva promotes the storytelling campaign dedicated to the internal challenges of athletes and ordinary people13 May 2020
The protagonist of the first chapter of For You Mountain is the ultra runner Michele Graglia
There are challenges that go beyond the opponent, the goal, the top, the time to beat. Challenges that those who practice sports know well: they are based on our deepest motivations, they lead us to undertake intense training sessions, to face our fears, to know and possibly overcome our limits.
Those who run, climb, ski, those who hike, those who practice any outdoor activity to feel good with themselves, face each challenge their own challenge, their mountain. The perimeter of the game is defined by our heart, by our emotions, by our why.
It is around this concept that La Sportiva developed the claim "For your mountain", for your mountain, whatever it is, whatever shape it has. And if all the sporting activities of the outdoor world bring with them fascinating and in some cases apparently impossible challenges, it is perhaps ultra running that today represents one of the most challenging and fascinating disciplines, with hundreds of thousands of practitioners constantly on the rise, ready to get involved with themselves even before their opponents, over long distances, over 100 km.
The protagonist of the first chapter of the La Sportiva campaign: For your Mountain is therefore the ultra runner Michele Graglia: emblem of self motivation and a great example of a resilient athlete who finds his motivations in the constant search for meaning and for himself.
After a career as a supermodel between Los Angeles and New York, Michele, of Ligurian origins, decides to abandon the spotlight in search of the broader sense of things, starting to run. The ultra distances, those often physically inexhaustible, those that only a well-prepared mind can allow you to travel, put him in the condition to dialogue with himself in a way that has a lot to do with meditation, looking for the deepest motivations of the to be an athlete and a man. A few years later, as the biographical book “Ultra. Freedom beyond the limit" written with Folco Terzani, Michele wins many of the challenges he had posed at the beginning of his journey: in 2016 he won the Yukon Artic 100 miles in the frost and solitude of the Canadian winter, in 2018 he is the first Italian ever to cross the finish line in first position at the Badwater Marathon in the United States, the 217 km ultra-road marathon considered by fans to be the hardest in the world and still in October 2019 enters the Guinnes Book of Records with the complete crossing of the Gobi desert in southern Mongolia, the first human being to travel the 1703 km of the "windy desert" in a record time of 23 days, 8 hours and 46 minutes.
However, Michele's story has just begun. The goal of the next years is to run all the main known deserts, where the horizon appears flat and infinite, where the mountains to climb are the inner ones and have to do with your motivations and the search for yourself in the middle untouched nature.
