Anna Stöhr's new film is available on Salewa website14 April 2020
From today on the SALEWA website Evolution is available, the film that follows the evolution of Anna Stöhr, for over a decade dominating female bouldering, from artificial competitions to the completion of Ali Baba, a demanding multi-pitch route in France.
After leaving competitions in 2018, Austrian climber Anna Stöhr was looking for new challenges. Certainly he found one in Aiglun, in the French Maritime Alps, where the thirty-one year old faced and completed Ali Baba, 8 pitches, 250 meters, grade 8a +.
The Evolution film recounts the personal journey that brought the two-time world bouldering champion from one end of the climbing to the other, leaving the artificial competitions to embrace the freedom, the necessary determination and the characteristic rhythms of the great alpine climbing walls.
The transformation of this climber begins in the summer of 2018 and is something completely new for her too. After fifteen years of competitive bouldering, where she has reached the top of the international scene, dominating competitions with two world titles, four world cups, two European titles, and countless podiums, also for the consequences of a back injury, Anna announces his retirement.
Within the film, the athlete Salewa recalls an episode from a few years ago, during a climbing trip in Sardinia. At that time he was beginning to meditate on his evolution as a climber and had faced the characteristic challenges of long routes.
“I was impressed by those walls and I wanted to find out if I was able to climb them – Anna says - I had confidence in my athletic skills, but I also had great respect for the height and exposure of these gigantic rock walls. My mental abilities, which I was so good at using during competitions, seemed useless as I rocked 100 meters above the ground ... At that moment I set myself the goal of becoming a more versatile climber".
Together with his partner Kilian Fischhuber, also a professional climber, he dedicated himself to this challenge by looking for new projects outside the climbing gyms. Facing a demanding route like Ali Baba and finally being able to complete it represents a turning point in Anna's life. He was facing new ground in every respect, going from short and intense bouldering problems to long vertical alpine climbing routes.
Did she manage to overcome the challenge with herself, as well as with the wall?
The film Evolution shows in an exciting way how Anna Stöhr left her comfort zone to face her fears in a different dimension of climbing.
