Maratòn Alpina Zegama-Aizkorri

The skyrunning race Zegama-Aizkorri Mendi Maratoia will be held in the the small Basque town of Zegama on May 22. This 15th edition of the race is part of the 2016 Skyrunner World Series and also of the Skyrunner National Series.
The event is set in the Aratz-Aizkorri Natural Park, 50 km inland from the town of San Sebastian.The race follows a medium mountain route, on paths and mountain tracks of great natural beauty, over the Aratz massif and the Sierra of Aizkorri, which includes the four highest peaks in the Basque Autonomous Region (Aratz, Aitzkorri, Akategi and Aitxuri). The starting point is the town of Zegama (296 m). The race track is very technical, combining easy paths in the forest and difficult steep rocky slopes. Part of the challenge lies in the condition of the ground, often muddy, thanks to the influence of the nearby Atlantic.
