Long distance team skimo race in the Swiss Alps
19 April 2016From April 19 to 23 the Patrouille des Glaciers, a world famous international Long distance team ski mountaineering competition, is taking place in the Wallis Alps (CH), starting from Zermatt (course Z) or from Arolla (course A) and finishing at Verbier. The Patrouille des Glaciers is organised every two years by the Swiss Army, in which both military and civilian teams compete. This year, the PDG is the last stage of the ISMF Long Distance World Cup. It is also part of La Grande Course circuit. Race's details: Course Z: start in Zermatt, finish in Verbier; distance: 53 km; altitude difference: +3994 m, -4090 m; Course A: start in Arolla, finish in Verbier; distance: 26 km; altitude difference: +1881m, -2341 m. The race distance, the high altitude, the extreme route profile and the high alpine terrain are the main features of this unique competition.
